Review methodology

Last updated: 14 August 2026

How we will assess products and services, and the rules that apply before any review is published.

Status

Long Bright Life has not yet published product reviews or comparisons. This page sets out the method we are committing to in advance, so that it can be judged before there is any commercial incentive attached to it.

What we assess

  • Does the underlying mechanism have credible evidence behind it?
  • Does this specific product deliver that mechanism in a meaningful way?
  • What does it cost, including running costs and replacement parts?
  • What are the trade-offs, limitations and realistic failure modes?
  • Who is it genuinely suitable for — and who should skip it?
  • Is there a cheaper or simpler thing to try first?

Rules we apply

  • A product cannot buy a place in a review, a score, a ranking position, or the removal of criticism.
  • “No good option” is a permitted conclusion. So is “do not buy anything yet”.
  • Any commercial relationship relevant to a review is disclosed clearly on that page, in addition to our site-wide affiliate disclosure.
  • We do not claim to have tested something we have not tested, and we distinguish hands-on testing from evidence review.
  • We do not present health claims for consumer products beyond what the evidence supports, and we do not imply that a product treats a medical condition.

Scoring

If and when we introduce scores, the scoring criteria and weightings will be published alongside them on this page. We will not publish a score whose basis we are unwilling to show.
